Intermodal Trailers

Stackable trailers, usually marine shipping containers, that are moved using heavy forklifts and cranes, and are easily transferable between water, truck, and rail carrier systems.

What are Intermodal Trailers?

Many intermodal trailers come in the form of marine shipping containers. Heavy-duty forklifts and cranes are needed to unload these off ships and railcar flatbeds. Trucks using a trailer chassis can assist in shipping them further depending on whether they are loaded or empty.

Due to the weight, only a limited amount of cargo can travel in a container that is being moved by truck.
