A U.S. DOT number is a 6 to 8 digit number to identify motor carriers and verify their safety performance and federal compliance.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requires motor carriers operating commercial vehicles to obtain a U.S. DOT number (or stylized as "USDOT" on trucks) for freight transportation and safety monitoring in the United States.
