What is Proof of Delivery (POD)?

Proof of Delivery (POD) is a document that is signed by the receiver of the goods. By signing the document, the receiver is confirming that they now have possession of the goods and that the goods are in acceptable condition. Carriers provide this document in either paper form or by email.

If there was an issue with the shipment, such as damaged or missing pieces, these can sometimes be added to the POD and submitted as evidence in a claim.

Carriers, drivers, and shippers should always ask for a copy of the POD for their own records. Having this document ready will be useful in case the receiver causes a dispute regarding the well-being of the goods when they took ownership of them.
