What is Hazmat?

Hazmat transportation is highly regulated to ensure the safe handling, transportation, and delivery of hazardous materials. Drivers of hazmat loads are required to obtain special licensing that indicates they have the training necessary to transport and handle such commodities.

Hazardous materials can include a wide range of substances:

  • Flammable liquids
  • Explosives
  • Toxic chemicals
  • Radioactive materials
  • Corrosive substances

Paperwork for hazmat shipments should include all necessary precautions and a record of proper labeling as recommended by the Department of Transportation (DOT). It also needs to be recorded on paper in a cohesive sequence.
