Forklifts are some of the most versatile equipment being used today. A forklift might be used to perform maintenance, in a loading dock, to move materials around a construction site and in warehouses and distribution centers.

In the simplest terms, a forklift is a driveable piece of equipment used to move heavy items over short distances. They are easy to load and unload thanks to smart design and lifts. They can move everything from construction materials to pallets in a warehouse or manufacturing facility.

There are several design types of forklifts. The types of forklifts include:

  • Low lift truck

  • Stacker
  • Reach truck

How to Ship a Forklift

How to Ship a Forklift

Forklift shipping isn’t difficult when R+L Global Logistics is on your side. Shipping a forklift takes special coordination. After all, you can’t drive a forklift down the highway even though it has wheels. There are a few considerations you need to keep in mind when you’re shipping a forklift.

Use a Flatbed Truck

In most cases, a forklift is transported on a flatbed truck. This is because many forklifts are large and heavy. Smaller forklifts can be shipped in containers, but this is rare. A flatbed or lowboy trailer is usually required to support the forklift’s weight or height.

Secure the Forklift Carefully

Security might be the most important thing to consider when shipping a forklift. This is expensive and essential equipment and it needs to be handled with care. Four things to keep in mind when securing a forklift for shipping include:

  1. Use chains to attach the forklift to the trailer. The chains used need to support the weight of the forklift. Forklifts are heavy and the chains used for auto shipping might not be enough.
  2. You will likely use booms to further secure the forklift.
  3. Use blocks to secure the wheels
  4. Tilt the forks forward for added security.

The right forklift transportation services partner will use the right equipment and secure the equipment properly. This is where R+L Global Logistics comes into the equation. We have a vast network of carrier partners who are ready to move your forklift with ease. No matter whether you are shipping a single piece of equipment or moving and entire fleet, we’re here to help.

  1. I have a one-time move request. I need a carrier that has the capability to haul 3-5 T/Ls and provide a standard fork lift to move freight (conveyance systems pre-packaged on custom pallets) from Maple Grove, MN to Nottingham, MD. Driver to unload at destination location for inside delivery at a designated spot in the storage warehouse. Nothing else required. Is this something your company can do?
