What is the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA)?

The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) creates the regulations for pallets used throughout the domestic freight shipping industry. Pallets regulated by the GMA are classified by different grades. Companies that handle large amounts of bulk freight will often request that their suppliers use specific grade pallets.

This includes companies like Amazon, Walmart, and Costco.

Amazon, for example, requires GMA Standard B Grade pallets which are the lowest category of GMA pallets. If grocery products make up your Amazon shipment, then you can only use GMA 1A Grade Pallets. These types of pallets are generally used for transporting grocery products to stores and helping display food for customers.

If you are a supplier for such locations, be sure to look into our resource blog for information on pallet shipping requirements. Stay updated on the latest trends and insights in the world of truckload shipping.
