What is a Consignor?

The Consignor serves as the shipper or sender of a shipment. Their responsibilities include preparing and packaging the goods, providing the carrier with a Bill of Lading, paying freight charges, ensuring compliance with regulations, and communicating effectively to facilitate the smooth movement of the shipment from origin to destination.

While a consignor is usually the one being paid to ship something, they may also be the ones hiring a freight service to perform the actual transport. The official consignor is identified on the shipping documents that travel with the freight.
